The 4 Hour Work Week
So I know multiple posts in one day, not fair…originally I was thinking I should go to sleep. I just looked at my categories, and this is something I wanted to blog about…
This book talked about the New Rich and the Old Rich, and how the New Rich value time and money, where the OR may just value money. The idea being don’t spend your life working to make money, so that when you retire you can do what you want because by that time you will be too old to do what you want. So I really like this idea. I don’t want to work my entire life, at least not for someone else. I want to start a business and this book is geared toward that. I really need to get motivated, and set my priorities. I think I will expand on this blog post, or add more blog posts about this book as things progress.
one thing I liked about this book is how geared it is toward action. At the end of every chapter there was a section that said Questions and Actions, which were like next steps. Things that you can do and things that you should do to be on your way toward not working.
4 things DEAL
Definition:
Define what is important to me and what I want out of life: My girlfriend is important to me, new experiences, health, learning/development, accomplishment.
I really enjoy trying new exciting things…Some things I want to try (scuba diving, powered para-gliding, real kiteboarding, mountain climbing, bungee jumping, rappelling, hang gliding, sky diving, race car driving, riding a motorcycle)
I like being in shape and healthy – working out is hard to find time, but it always feels good afterward. I want to be in shape to enable me to do the things I like, wake boarding, ju-jitsu, snowboarding, I would like to get back into gymnastics, and maybe break dancing…I also want to be faster for soccer, and just well rounded in my athletic abilities.
I like learning about new things – my aquarium is a big one, lots of things to learn there, and I get to work with new ideas and building things, which I like. I also like learning about web development things, how I can become better at making good websites, and other technical learnings. I just got started into playing the guitar – relaxing, easy to multi-task, play guitar and look at fish tank, and I can see improvement. Reading books is a big one too…
Accomplishment – I like to see the results of my fish tank, I like to see my foosbot beating people, I like to see my websites being used, I like to see my ideas working and to know that I did something beneficial/cool.
Eliminate:
Things to Eliminate so that I can work on the things above – browsing reef central without a purpose, watching tv pretty much any time, going out to lunch as frequently as I do (save money to do things) , chatting with people for things I don’t need to worry about. Reading internet/e-mail that is not important to me. Sleep – should get back on that college schedule of not sleeping as much, definitely takes up too much time.
Automate:
Things that I can take myself out of the equation:
Fish tank…lights, top off, feeding?, water changes – potential business opportunity.
Income: need to find a way to make money without doing anything…this could be hard. Start a business…potential? LT…board…web development?…service…license ideas?
Liberation:
Well can’t really do this yet…
can work from home more frequently…and then potentially work from another place. Need to have more solid job position – and a fall back plan.
Places I would like to go though: Costa Rica – New Zealand – Hawaii – Europe – Panama – Brazil – Chile – Australia – Figi pretty much everywhere.
So I guess thats about it for now. I guess the next step is acting.
Nice Site layout for your blog. I am looking forward to reading more from you.

I’m not sure what kind of business you have an interested in starting but we are launching a site that helps people start a photography business. It should be live in the next month but we do have an ebook you can download now for some good reading that sheds some light on the steps to starting a photography business. http://www.photoadvantge.net
